Maintaining
Healthy Eyes
Recommendations
from the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Dr.
Lopatynsky wants to share these tips for preventing serious
eye injuries:
 |
Know
your risk factors for eye diseases and see an ophthalmologist
- your Eye M.D. for an eye exam at the intervals she
recommends. |
 |
Always
wear sunglasses that block 99-100% of UV-A and UV-B
rays when outdoors for extended periods, particularly
if you spend time in the snow or water. |
 |
Never
share cosmetics, especially eyeliner or mascara. Serious
eye infections can be spread from one person to another
through cosmetics. |
 |
If you wear contact lenses, apply cosmetics after inserting
lenses. This helps prevent stray makeup from getting
under the lens and irritating your eyes. |
 |
Working
on a computer can cause eyestrain. Place your screen
at or below eye level. Take periodic breaks to rest
your eyes. |
